Harborough Magna 2000
I would like to take this opportunity to tell you the history of our group. The group was first formed back in Feb 1999 with a number of villagers having a meeting at the Old Lion to try to arrange a village party to celebrate the Millennium. We held various fund raising events and donations were also received. The party was a great success and was enjoyed by all who attended.
After this a number of villagers left the group and the remaining members decided to carry on raising funds to have a similar party to the last one held to celebrate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee. This once again was hard work with even more fund raising, donations etc. Again the party was a huge success. After various discussions the group next decided to try and provide a play area for the children of the village. We rented a portion of the Meadow Way playing field from Rugby Borough Council, donations and fund raising raised £30,000. The play area was installed and opened by Mrs. Aileen Wright followed by a party for the children.
We decided to carry on raising funds for the village and have provided benches, a notice board and planters around the village. But all this is only possible with help from the village but once again our latest event on Saturday August 15th our Summer Fair was poorly supported. We had a bouncy castle, barbeque, refreshments, lots of games, tombola and a raffle. Most of the attendees who came along were the same faces despite extensive advertising.
If the village would help us by attending further events planned we will be able to plan our next big function which is a village party to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the 2012 Olympics. This is a 3 year plan we are working towards and we really need the village to work with us towards this. So please come and support us and let’s make 2012 a year to remember. Thanks to those who have supported us throughout the last 10 years and here’s to the future.
